The Maquoketa Economic Development Office welcomes HUSCO International to the Maquoketa Highway 61 Industrial Park. Based out of Waukesha, Wisconsin, HUSCO International is a global manufacturer of hydraulic and electrohydraulic control systems for mobile and automotive equipment. HUSCO reaches the Agricultural, Automotive, Construction, Forestry, Material Handling, Refuse, Marine, Military, Utility and other miscellaneous off-highway and on-highway markets. HUSCO continues to expand production by opening facilities in Waukesha and Whitewater, Wisconsin, Runcan, England, Shangai, China, and Pune, India. In 2007, HUSCO was evaluating Wisconsin, Iowa, Georgia, North Carolina and Kansas to open a new facility. HUSCO made the announcement on March 21, 2008, at the Maquoketa City Hall at 2:00p.m., the new facility in North America would be located in the Highway 61 Industrial Park, Maquoketa, in the same building occupied by Generac Power Systems. This new site will house new product lines introduced this year. With the purchase of the building, HUSCO plans on renovating the building before bringing in machines and equipment. They plan on hiring 50-70 people to start production in August or September. In 3-5 years HUSCO plans to peak employment at approximately 200 jobs. HUSCO plans on only bringing in a small number of employees from the Wisconsin facilities to start production. The majority of the jobs will be held by local people, making up about 98% of the available employment. Maquoketa was chosen over a number of states and Mexico because of the availability of skilled labor necessary for operation and has found that the Maquoketa area offers associates with the necessary training, skills, education and work ethic required for successful employees. HUSCO mentioned that Project Lead the Way accentuated the desire to operate in Maquoketa. They felt that the pre-engineering program available at the Maquoketa Community High School offered future employees the engineering-mathematical skills needed to enhance the business. Again, Maquoketa welcomes HUSCO International to our community.
